Thirty Years on New Grounds

A newsletter celebration about the best website in human history. A treasure trove of content from artist that dates back thirty years.

Alright, I know that I'm currently work on a comic right now, but I wanted to take some time off to talk about as my absolutely biased take on a website that means a lot to me. It was a site created by the coolest man from Pennsylvania, back in July 1995 and still having a following 3 decades later.

That’s right, I’m talking about Newgrounds.com. created by Tom Fulp when he was a teenager. Newgrounds has grown a lot from to little site.

To a treasure trove of animation, games, art and music three decades later.

I’m not going over the history of Newgrounds since there some many articles and videos on in already, plus you can view history of the site on Newgrounds itself. But, I am going to talk about my brief time on the website and how it affected me as a creator.

I knew Newgrounds for a while now. Since I was a kid it was one of the op sites that I’ll visit I wanted to play some games and watch some flash animations from young animators. My favorite series was anything that revolved around a kid with an UZI and Weird looking hair cut.

Of course, I’m talking about Pico. I love the Pico Series, even thought I was never any good at back then because I was absolutely stupid as kid. But, regard less of that I’ve love the adventures of a ginger kid from Philadelphia and his friends. I’m also a big fan of Madness Series, but I’m gonna talk about for another day.

During to 2010s when I haven’t been on Newgrounds. I was instead bumming around on YouTube when it was slow turning it to the dumpster fire we know today. At the end of the decade is when I made my account to showcase my art. I made account before it but I forgot it.

My Page. I should really post more often…

But I really got in to Newgrounds thanks to Friday Night Funkin'. Yep, all it took for me to come crawling back to the greatest site of all time was a rhythm game that brought back Sonic.EXE for some reason. I love the game though, and I even backed it on Kickstarter. It’s my first investment and judging by all the hard work going into by The Funkin’ Crew a very wise investment.

And thanks to one little rhythm game I started to use Newgrounds more often. Heck, I even join a collab back in 2022. Even though I haven’t posted there in while ( And I WILL TO! just I’ve been doing a lot of sketches and not a lot of pieces.). I and many others believe it to be the best website on the planet.

I don’t know how to end this post, so I’ll just repeat myself. Newgrounds is the best website on the planet! Go check it out!

Happy 30th Anniversary Newgrounds, and Thank You, Tom Fulp, You Absolute Madman.

And write to you all in two weeks. I’m going biweekly now.
